I don’t know what it is, but for some reason I always find myself getting a bit more introspective than usual when my birthday comes around.
Maybe it’s the idea of getting a year older; looking at all the things you’ve done (or not done 🤷🏾♀️) while thinking of where it is that you want to go.
This year I thought about some of the biggest lessons I’ve learned over time and I’ve decided to share it with you!
Here we go! (In no particular order…)
1. Don’t expect what you don’t ask for.
2. Assumptions are the worst. It’s easier to ask the RIGHT questions and save yourself the anxiety.
3. Postpartum depression is real.
4. There’s nothing wrong with prioritizing your mental health and getting professional help. As a matter of fact you should. It’s far more important than you know.
5. You don’t have to be a stereotype. Embrace your uniqueness. You can be and create your own show.
6. The love you have for yourself far outweighs the love from others. It actually makes it easier for them to love you as your best self.
7. There is a higher self to you and you are more than meets the eye.
8. Don’t underestimate your contributions. Even if they seem little they matter. It’s normally the little things that most don’t want to do anyway.
9. You’ve always been and will continue to be enough as you grow.
10. Gratitude is important. It keeps you level.
11. It’s ok to say no and not regret it. If you don’t want to then you don’t have to.
12. There’s no use complaining about something if you’re not prepared to take the steps to change it.
13. Find a way to do the things you enjoy even if it seems impossible.
14. It’s not a matter of if you can… open your mind to think HOW you can and the ideas will flow.
15. Your passions have purpose behind them.
16. Keep failing. That’s where the lessons are. You’ll know better for next time.
17. Every little bit counts. One day at a time doing a little will eventually become a lot.
18. Plan your life and plan it well. Time will pass either way.
19. Introspection is good. It’s easy to be conflicted by external factors and get confused about what we really want.
20. Find your people. They’re out there and they want to help you become the best version of yourself.
21. Most things are simple. Don’t overthink it by adding unnecessary layers.
22. Talking it out helps. There’s someone who has an answer to your question.
23. It’s never too late to do what you want. The transition may take more effort but imagine how you’d feel if you didn’t.
24. Habits and disciplines are important. They help form consistency and if necessary you can change them.
25. Kids are the coolest. A lot of work but still cool.
26. The life you want is a plan a way. Create a plan, set goals and when the hurdles come find a way to get over.
27. There’s no need for comparison. We all have strengths and weaknesses that can complement others if we’re willing to work together.
28. Like Jim Rohn would say ‘most people major in minor things when they should major in the major things’. So stick to what’s really important for where you are and leave the rest. You can get to it eventually.
29. Your future does not have to look anything like your present.
30. No one really cares unless it’s going to impact them in some way.
31. Opinions are just that. They’re not facts unless they have the factual evidence to support… and if they do… then they’re something else.
32. Sometimes you need to change the way you look at things. You might be missing something.
33. Work on yourself more than you work on others. It’ll only frustrate you trying to get others to change for what you want.
34. Reading is a lost art but still worth it. Find the time to do it… even if it’s an audio.
35. Time is our friend if we use it wisely. Otherwise it can backfire and never feel like enough.
36. Life is an experiment. Some are coming to conclusions before others but it doesn’t discount one over the next.
37. Perfection is overrated. It holds you back.
Bonus: Somethings happening with everyone; even if you don’t see it. Be kind always.
